Breakaway room 1 focused on the third question: how can we measure progress more effectively?

The group summarized their conversation around four themes:

          1. Develop clear and intentional transformation concepts and goals
With regards to variables used to measure ourselves – we need to be more intentional about what we require; we
need to sharpen those criteria in a way that we can scaffold it down to a practical level within a department to
make sense to the lecturer teaching a particular module in the classroom; increase clarity around the concepts and
goals of what we are trying to achieve.

          2. Shift employment mindset to entrepreneurship mindset
Transformation creates tensions. There exists a tension between employability and entrepreneurship. How do we
go about changing mindsets, focusing on graduate attributes, and shifting the narrative away from employment
                 towards entrepreneurship?

          3. Create enabling environments to shift mindset towards entrepreneurship
Use Engaged Teaching and Learning through practice-based experience to transform curriculum.

          4. Balance the tension between our transformation agenda and industry requirements
We must manage the influence of stakeholders so that we prioritise our transformation agenda.

          ADDITIONAL THEMES
          1. What are all the factors that set a ‘Mandela University’ graduate apart from other graduates?
          2. The shift to online – the opportunities presented?
